    Meet the mushroom

Our Mushroom Coffee is your all-in-one drink, but unlike normal coffee it is full of polysaccharides, beta glucans and antioxidants. It’s a blend of coffee beans with 1,000mg of three of our super mushrooms (Chaga, Lion’s Mane and Tremella) along with Ashwagandha and Maca for additional adrenal, digestion and hormonal support.

DIRTEA coffee has a smooth, nutty and earthy taste.

Coffee contains caffeine, a natural stimulant. Caffeine is absorbed into your bloodstream when you consume coffee, eventually crossing the blood-brain barrier. Once in the brain, caffeine blocks the action of adenosine, a neurotransmitter that promotes relaxation and drowsiness. By inhibiting adenosine, caffeine increases the activity of other neurotransmitters leading to increased alertness and focus. With the triple power of Chaga, Tremella, and Lion’s Mane, our DIRTEA mushroom coffee could also contribute to increased energy levels without a caffeine crash and support brain power, including focus and memory.

Coffee is a rich source of antioxidants. (1) Antioxidants help neutralise harmful free radicals in the body, which can reduce oxidative stress. By supporting the body's defence against oxidative damage, coffee, with the added power of the Chaga mushroom extract, may support the immune system.

The legend of coffee discovery traces back to Ethiopia in the 9th century. According to popular folklore, a goat herder named Kaldi noticed his goats becoming more energetic after eating red berries from a particular tree. Curious about the berries' effects, he tried them and experienced newfound alertness. The tree was later identified as the coffee plant. Coffee cultivation and consumption gradually spread across the Arabian Peninsula. By the 15th century, coffee was cultivated in Yemen, and it became famous as a stimulating beverage among Sufi monasteries to help them stay awake during nighttime prayers.

Chaga, unlike coffee, doesn’t give you caffeine crashes or jitters. It may provide a slow release of energy. One rodent study performed on 64 mice showed that the mice that were given Chaga mushrooms had longer physical endurance and were fatigued less often than those that were not administered Chaga mushrooms (3).

Chaga mushroom is often referred to as the "king of mushrooms" due to its potential health benefits, particularly for immune support.

Chaga mushrooms contain various bioactive compounds, including polysaccharides and beta-glucans, which are believed to have immune-stimulating effects. Chaga contains kojic acid and betulinic acid, compounds that are often used to nourish and hydrate the skin, as well as reduce the appearance of wrinkles. (1) This fungus contains a plethora of antioxidants. For instance, one cup of Chaga has the equivalent of 600 blueberries in terms of antioxidants, which may help support the immune system. (2)

Chaga has a long history of use in traditional medicine, particularly in Siberia, Russia, and other parts of Asia. Chaga has been used for centuries in Siberian and Russian folk medicine. It is believed that the indigenous people of Siberia were among the first to discover and use Chaga for its potential health benefits. The traditional use of Chaga was primarily for immune support, overall well-being, and to help alleviate various health conditions. Chaga was used in Finland during the Second World War as a substitute for coffee as it is native to Finnish people and has a similar earthy taste!

Chaga is thought to help support the immune system and improve overall health. Additionally, it is often found growing on birch trees in the colder regions, such as Siberia and Canada, and it's known for its unique appearance, which is a black, burnt-looking exterior.

Chaga has quite an earthy taste, similar to coffee but not as strong.

Reishi, “the queen of mushrooms,” is one of nature’s most soothing wonders, famous for promoting calmness and supporting better sleep. (1) The high number of triterpenoids found within this mushroom powder not only accounts for its bitter taste, but they are functional compounds that may benefit our parasympathetic nervous system, promoting calmness and better-quality sleep, so we say the more bitter, the better! (2)

Reishi is rich in polysaccharides and beta-glucans, which are complex carbohydrates known for their immune-enhancing properties. The number of triterpenoids within Reishi may also support immune health. (2)(3)

Reishi was highly esteemed in ancient Chinese culture, where it earned various titles, including the "Mushroom of Immortality" and the "Elixir of Life." It was believed to promote longevity, improve vitality, and enhance spiritual well-being—the first records of mushroom cultivation date from thousands of years ago in East Asia.  Reishi is also known as Shen tonic. Within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Shen translates to our spirit and “higher consciousness," representing the divinity within all.

Reishi is the Queen of Mushrooms. It’s known for its calming qualities. Reishi is great to relax, wind-down and centre yourself. It helps promote deep sleep whilst also helping to support immune health and enhancing your body’s natural defence.

Reishi has a very bitter taste, and works well mixed into hot chocolate or a cacao.
